Vintage Eyeware at VBVintage on Etsy

Over the past couple of weeks we've picked up a few great pair of vintage eyeglasses for our Etsy Shop, VBVintage!  Glasses seem to be very popular these days, even for peeps who don't need them...just as an interesting fashion accessory.

The first pair we found are actually sunglasses.  A fun pair of white pearl metal frames with yellow ombre lenses that make EVERYTHING bright and happy when you put them on...perfect for the sunny day we're having here in Virginia Beach.  When we found them they were in a SOLARGENICS case, however through lots of internet research we discovered that they are NOT actual Solargenics!  Kind of a let down, but they are cool shades that were made in Japan
(Solargenics are from Italy it turns out!)

Next up is a great pair of Geek Chic Eyeglasses by Romco, circa 1960's. These hippster frames are a transulent carmel brown with sweet silver details that are so fun and fashionable for the funky gal at heart! Definatly my favorite from our finds last week...I love them so much I considered keeping them for myself!

And the last pair that we found...well, they're a bit old fashioned but still cute and hip! Sweet antiqued bronzed metal frames with beautiful art deco inspired arms and oval lenses. There's no markings on them, but they have obviousely been around for a few decades at least!

The first two pair of glasses are already listed in our shop!  The third pair will be in the shop by tomorrow!!!  Check us out and find some great vintage fashions to add to your wardrobe!

Thank you everyone for reading!  Have a fun day....

A Little Bit of This and That

Today's writing...not ALL about vintage!

A lot has been going on this week in and out of VBVintage. First off we're saying goodbye to a couple of great vintage pieces from the shop this week. This always makes us a bit sad, just because we love everything we are selling!!  First to go was an H Bar C Western Shirt. We shipped this awesome cowboy shirt off to Oakland, California the other day...

Last night one of my favs sold to a sweet gal from Baltimore, Maryland.  This is a Herman Geist Full Circle Skirt with Pockets.  I'm sure the new owner will love it as much as I do...

We've been shopping for vintage inventory and picked up some amazing items. Yesterday we found a great pair of vintage Lite Brite Lamps from the 1970's-1980's (we think!). When they are lit up they look like Lite Brites from our childhood.  They are so sweet & adorable! We know they'll look great in a vintage gal's kitschy bedroom! They just need to get dusted off and soon they will get listed! There's only one photographed below...but there's going to be a matching pair listed in our shop!

We also found a couple of amazing vintage dresses. One my sister instantly fell in love with! It's a '70's style Hawaiian dress in gorgeous greens with a lovely strappy back.  And the other dress...I fell in love with! It's navy blue with white polk-a-dots and matching jacket. Very Brady Bunch vibe to this one...I tried it on and felt like Jan Brady right away!  Im pretty sure our mother owned the same one when we were young! ❤ I'm pretty sure I bought it because of sentimental reasons, but I'm sure some hip vintage loving chick will love it too! Sorry but there's no photos of these yet!

Outside of our Etsy shop I've been busy too! Lots of work- this afternoon/tonight is shift #8 in a row I'm a waitress at a sprawling (as in a lot of walking...and up and down stairs) old restaurant in Virginia Beach, so it gets a little tiring after a week straight. I've also started my taxes- personal & business, I'm getting all of my paperwork in order & organized! (Ahhhhh, a sigh of relief!) Today is file shredding day...a great feeling to purge all the old useless receipts & bills! Yesterday was baking day as well. I made chocolate chip banana bread (Click on that link for the recipe!) for a friend and muffins for us at home! So good, and I don't even like bananas that much! I have tried about 7 or 8 different recipes in the past months...and I finally found one on Pinterest that I LOVE! I just add some chocolate chips!

My boyfriend & I are leaving for England in less than 2 weeks! I'm so excited for this trip.  We are flying into London which I've never done before.  I'm really hoping it won't be too foggy when we are flying in...I want to get some good pics of the city from the plane.  In addition to our time in London we will be going to his cousin's wedding in York. Any of his family events are always a blast!  We will be spending time in Leeds, his hometown and where a lot of his family still lives.  Below is the  Leeds City Markets...one of his favorite places to visit in UK.

The BF is VERY ORGANIZED and is pressuring me to pack already!!! He must think I'm a bit of a procrastinator (I can't deny it sometimes!). Mentally, I'm ready for our trip & know what I will pack, but it's way TOOoooooooo early for me to think about actually getting everything together right now.

Ok...I'm off to get that paperwork shredded and then off to work for the evening!  Thank you for checking out the blog and have a great day!

Sparkling Brooch Love!

Today I keep thinking all about brooches!!! Preferably sparkly ones! I've been looking through tons of shops on Etsy today and just can't seem to get enough! So many Etsy shops have great ideas for Valentine's Day and Weddings (it seems both seasons are right around the corner already!).  That's what I think of when I look at my brooch collection.  I even looked at my own favorites in my jewelry box this afternoon.  After gazing at them for a bit I decided to display them in a frame I had used to hang earrings on in the past!  Here's a little peek for you!

My Collection of Vintage Brooches I Just Can't Part With!

My Favorite Piece of Jewelry (I know it's not a brooch, but I couldn't resist!), my Grandmother's Porcelain Forget-Me-Not Earring.
I only have one...and I think my sister has the other!

Here's what the little display looks like that I put together today.  Simple.  And it gets a lot of natural sunlight so they glisten all day!

In addition to my collection, we also have some lovely pieces in our shop!  And the good news, they're on SALE! Both of  the brooch/earring sets below sparkle like no one's business! ❤ The earrings are clip-on's, which instantly take me back to playing dress up as a child!

The gray/silver set is by CATHE, a company that started in 1961 in Torrence, CA. And the beautiful emerald green set dates to the late 1950's, but is unmarked.  They are all stunning jewels fit for a princess!

Stop on by VBVintage to see what's new...Maybe you'll even find a Valentine's Day gift for your love....or for yourself!

Thanks so much for reading.  And don't forget...we love to hear your comments!
Have a beautiful day...

I think I'm becoming obsessed.

Saturday's blog was all about that great pair of vintage oxfords from The Cordwainer Shop that we found in December. Today I am still thinking about shoes and I can't  seem to stop! I created an Etsy Treasury inspired by Saturday's post. I even organized my shoes yesterday and polished my shoes Saturday night at work...I'm a waitress which helps to pay for my love of vintage treasure hunts!

This week we will be listing....you guessed it, SHOES in the shop! In October I visited a dear friend in Florida. While I was there I couldn't resist an art festival in Los Olas where I found a crazy pair of vintage moccasin boots!! They are wild...white leather with fringe and so fun!

We also have two beautiful pairs of men's Oxford shoes that are to be making their grand entry at VBVintage. A classic pair of wing tips in shiny black leather that are perfect for everyday! They are from the early 1990's with square toes. The other is a lovely brown leather pair of shoes with mesh from the 1940's....a perfect combination. Both of the men's shoes are from Nunn Bush, a great company making shoes since 1912. Here's a sneak peek of those black beauties...the brown mesh oxfords will be listed with photos in the shop!

We've been loving women's oxfords and brogues this season...My sister, Laurel & I are both on the hunt for a pair. I'll be in England next month and they'll be on my radar for sure!! What type of shoes do you love!??   Click on this link to see our favs from the Etsy Treasury I created today!!

Thanks for reading about my crazy shoe obsession this week! Hope everyone has a great night! ❤

If The Shoe Fits...

In November my sister & I went to a rummage sale and found the sweetest pair of vintage shoes! They are hand made women's oxfords that only date back to the late 1980's...but have a fun story behind them.  These shoes are Hand Crafted from The Cordwainer Shop in Deerfield, NH. I did a lot of research and learned so much.

Here is a snippet of information from The Cordwainer Shop web page:
The Cordwainer Shop is a third-generation family business that has been creating beautiful hand-crafted shoes since the 1920s. Fashioned from the finest leathers and free from synthetic materials, our shoes are entirely hand made in our shop in New Hampshire. The shoes are a wearable piece of American Craftsmanship that will last you for years to come.

In addition to making beautiful shoes, Sara and Molly from The Cordwainer Shop are members of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and show their shoes in juried fine crafts shows nationally.  And even YOU can make a pair of their amazing shoes by taking one of their 3 day workshops! Definitely something on my Bucket List now!

So back to the shoes we found at that rummage sale! There is beautiful writing on the inside of the shoes with the original owner's name! When I realized that, I knew we had something good!!!  The left states that they were handmade for Helene Bernstein, the right shoe states they are from The Cordwainer Shop in Deerfield, N.H.

Once I discovered this I investigated some more and emailed Molly, one of the shoemakers! She told me Helene Bernstein purchased them at a show they used to do in Springfield Mass back in Sept 1990. They were made in the late 1980's, and the style is Tyrolean Designer, color is parchment, the size is
5 1/2 B which translates to about a store size 7. She also told me they were originally $280.00....but now that style goes for $825.00!!

What an amazing story!

I hope you enjoyed learning about our fun find & beautiful American craftsmanship! Check out our Etsy shop, VBVintage to see the original listing & don't forget to stop by The Cordwainer Shop to see their other amazing creations!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Planning & Organizing

Hi there!  Yesterday was a busy day sending out orders. A beautiful pair of vintage Doc Martens were shipped to Japan and a sweet coat for a child from Best & Co. was sent to New York City.  I always love sending our vintage loves to their new home- it's such a great feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction!

Today will be filled with a bit of organizing. I've got mounds of inventory that will be listed in the weeks to come! Clothing & jewelry that need to be sorted through, photographed, listed, and put away again! (Photos of my office space/chaotic closet to come soon!) I'm also waiting to hear from a new potential customer about our Frankoma Pottery collection! If he decides to purchase it will be shipped off to Hawaii and we will have to say Aloha to it!

And for VBVintage March is fast approaching...We were asked to participate in our first Bridal Show! We will be featuring amazing vintage jewelry and clothing...all of it for sale at the show! Now just to get our display together!!  One more step outside of our comfort zone which forces us to grow and grow. 🌱

Thanks for reading & hope everyone has an amazing day!

Happy New Year

So last year on January 1st I decided I was going to start blogging to get my thoughts out on "paper" and help promote by business...

It never happened...until now! January 1st, 2013~ better late than never.

I LOVE vintage goods...clothes, shoes, jewelry, housewares, artwork- you name it and i hunt for it!! I love finding that perfect piece I know others will fall in love with too.

So the short & sweet of it...my sister (she loves vintage too) and I started a shop on Etsy last February. VBVintage.etsy.com. We still have a lot of work to do to perfect our brand- a proper logo, a little snippet of info about us, and listing sooooo much more inventory we have collected in the past year, etc etc etc!

On this blog I will let you know about our latest finds and keep you up to date on what's going on!

To anyone who may have read this, thank you for reading my first post ever...Please feel free to comment!
